The gallery
Jurányi Art Incubator House is home to over 15 visual artists and collectives working in various media and is committed to creating opportunities for encounters between visual artist and Jurányi audiences.
It was the idea of founder curator János Szirtes to create a special space with black walls on which the invited artists can leave their mark in chalk. A simple, yet versatile 60 m2 Gallery space opened in 2013 next to the café and in close proximity to the main theatre hall.
The Gallery does not show existing artworks. Invited artists create new work on the black walls with blackboard chalk and water in a few-days-time leading up to the exhibition opening. The works change, grow or erode due to deliberate interventions or by chance, are documented but disappear when the exhibition closes.
